Where is Freddy? (Harper Colophon Books) - Softcover

Grade 1-3 The mouse detective Tweedy and his assistant, Rollo, are on the track of rich Mrs. Twombly's grandson, Freddy, who has disappeared. Tweedy begins his round of questioning and tracking, eventually putting his clues together to arrive at the landing place of Freddy's homemade hot-air balloon. There is minimal suspense to this mystery; it is a muddle of half-baked characters, unremarkable dialogue and, consequently, a who-cares plot. The ink-and-wash cartoons in drab mustards and maroons make these mice indistinguishable, adding to the story's confusion. The lack of clear direction in the tale, with its atomistic bits of information proliferating, swamps the story and drowns any initial interest readers might have in running Freddy to ground.
