White-bordered illustrations show idyllic pastoral scenes featuring ducks, squirrels, bunnies, and other creatures of field and hearth amidst colorful flowers, leaves, and berries. Each is a perfectly composed painting; each short question and answer is enclosed in a fine-lined box, deftly enhanced by a detail borrowed from the facing full-page illustration: picnic basket, mushroom, bird's nest, flowers. The large print, set in two types, adds to the artistic whole. Endpapers are covered with tiny objects taken from the illustrations. Even the book's size is just right.
