Chapters include such issues as nagging, criticism, being treated like a baby, and discussions on topics such as sex and step-parents. Each one ends with suggestions for developing better interaction between parent and child. Although somewhat lengthy and repetitive in its advice, there is a valuable message that is dramatically more up-to-date than other self-help books for YA readers. Vedral's informal style is punctuated by excerpts of narratives between real teenagers and parents. This provides a coherent message about the necessity of equal participation; the teenager may have the incentive to change, but the adult must yield to the efforts of the child. If Vedral's premise is truethat teenagers' main concern today is getting along with their parentsthen this is the right book to find its way into their knapsacks. The bold title and cover design will sell the book to the skeptical ones who otherwise might disregard it.
