Brian Hewlett, a houseguest of Malcolm and Frances Chance, recognizes the unmistakable red-headed handyman as acquitted serial killer Jack Benyon. Brian, Malcom, and Frances discuss the probability of Jack Benyon and Fred Dyer being the same person, the methods of the slayings, and why Jack Benyon was acquitted. One afternoon, gunshots are heard and Frances witnesses a red-haired man leaving the scene. Is it Jack Benyon? This intellectual whodunit has more prose than action and won't likely appeal to the bulk of the genre's fans.
