THREE MEN CONQUERED THE FRONTIER
Three Brannock brothers once came west. Now, one of them survives, and Clint Brannock feels the weight of responsibility as he does his job as a U.S. deputy marshal. Hunting down an outlaw in the Indian territories, Clint meets up with two of his nephews-one destined to live or die by the gun, the other to live or die in his shadow. And in Southern New Mexico, a beautiful sister-in-law, Elizabeth, presides over 100,000 rich acres-and dabbles in a dangerous game...
ONE MAN IS LEFT TO DEFEND IT...
A vigilante named Miguel Ortega is using terror to drive out Anglo settlers. A woman of her own proud heritage, Elizabeth Brannock has a grown son and daughter who each stand to inherit an empire. But she has forged a forbidden bond with Miguel Ortega. With violence spiraling out of control, the government sends Clint Brannock to lay down the law. Soon, every Brannock must take a stand and risk their life--for justice, each other, and the land that is now in their blood...
"Matt Braun is a master storyteller of frontier history."
--Elmer Kelton
"Matt Braun is head and shoulders above all the rest who would attempt to bring the gunmen of the old west to life."--Terry C. Johnston, author of The Plainsmen series
Matt Braun is a fourth-generation Westerner, steeped in the tradition and lore of the frontier era. His books reflect a heritage rich with the truths of that bygone time. Raised among the Cherokee and Osage tribes, Braun learned their traditions and culture, and their philosophy became the foundation of his own beliefs. Like his ancestors, he has spent most of his life wandering the mountains and plains of the West. His heritage and his contribution to Western literature resulted in his appointment by the Governor of Oklahoma as a Territorial Marshal.
Braun is the author of more than forty novels and four nonfiction works, including Black Fox, which was made into a CBS miniseries, and One Last Town, which was made into a TNT movie called You Know My Name. Western Writers of America awarded Braun the prestigious Golden Spur Award for The Kincaids. He is also the recipient of the Cowboy Spirit Award and was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1999.
