Craft Books: Collage (Hardcover) - Hardcover

Grade 4-6-- Three imported volumes that consist primarily of full-color photographs of attractive, colorful, and inventive projects--but little else. The accompanying text is little more than an outline of things that readers can do ("Why not make an amazing modern sculpture from odds and ends?"), with the barest hint of how to go about them. Repeated advice to "ask a grown-up for help" suggests a primary-level target audience, but many of the skills involved (e. g. precision cutting and folding) seem challenging for beginning crafters. Projects make use, for the most part, of readily available materials and tools. The finished products are cleverly designed and deftly assembled--clearly the work of a sophisticated eye and an experienced hand. Collage seems the most accessible to young artists' abilities, although it stretches the imagination to believe any of the activities are the work of the children whose small hands are shown assembling them. Creative inspiration is abundant here, but a bit more instruction is needed to avoid frustration. A potential source for art teachers, crafts directors, and experienced others who work with children and can supply the missing elements.
