Stan Copeland and Scott Gilliland tell what a church has taught them through uplifting a vision to be "one diverse community, passionately engaging the Bible, uplifting Jesus in worship and loving service, and challenging in Love that which divides." Together supports the denomination moving forward by allowing local congregations, and area Conferences, to do authentic, Christ-centered ministry in their local mission fields. Together recognizes the long-standing theological and sociopolitical diversity within United Methodism as Traditionalist (Templers) and Progressives (Tabernaclers), but we all gather around a long, broad Table that the Lord sets, and to which He invites ALL of us to feast.

About the Author:
Stanley R. Copeland: Born and reared in rural East Texas and a cradle United Methodist, Rev. Dr. Stanley R. Copeland has served urban congregations in the hearts of Houston and Dallas. Serving 20+ years as pastor of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, he is a self-proclaimed Wesleyan Evangelical and is always ready with a faith-uplifting story. He is in love with the UMC that has led him into powerful local ministry, outreach, and global missions in Africa, Central America, and Russia. He is the author of Lord He Went: Remembering William H. Hinson, Abingdon Press, 2006.
Scott Gilliland: A Texan by birth and a Methodist since 3rd grade, Rev. Scott Gilliland believes the best years of United Methodism are still ahead of us. He serves as an Associate Pastor at Lovers Lane UMC. In June 2018, he and his wife, Raegan, were ordained as elders in the North Texas Conference. They serve as Co-Pastors of a growing worship community, called "Thrive," at LLUMC and continue to learn the ropes of leading a large, diverse congregation.
Review:
"Copeland and Gilliland have brought us Together, and we do well to give it a close read. They are powerfully and boldly testifying to serving Lovers Lane UMC, a microcosm of our larger global denomination in its diversity and missional passion. Together witnesses to the best of our relevant Wesleyan Evangelical heritage." - Bishop Mike McKee, North Texas Annual Conference, The United Methodist Church

"As I read Together, Eph. 4:1-6 runs in the background, '...bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.'  Having served a highly diverse congregation, Copeland and Gilliland are a living testimony to what is possible when we make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit." - Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey, Louisiana Annual Conference, The United Methodist Church

"This may be the most important book United Methodists read this year. Written from a pastoral heart, it represents the plea of countless pastors of vital congregations where Christ's witness is thriving through a unity in diversity that is 'hard-won and grace-drenched.' It is hopeful, positive, and generous, recognizing the diversity of churches and contexts and the need each has to learn from the others." - Dr. Lovett H. Weems, Jr., Distinguished Professor of Church Leadership, Wesley Theological Seminary

"I want all the restrictions specifically about homosexuality eliminated from the Discipline of the United Methodist Church. I expect my wish is to be frustrated. Short of that, the One Church Plan is the best compromise we have, and this book by Copeland and Gilliland is the most compelling and heart-felt iteration of that moderate position I have seen. But regardless of one's stance on this issue before the United Methodist Church, I recommend a careful reading of this book's argument and proposals." - Dr. Tex Sample, Robert B. And Kathleen Rogers Professor Emeritus of Church and Society, The Saint Paul School of Theology
