From 1939 onwards he produced cartoons for the Daily Express, using his character Maudie Littlehampton to satirize upper-class preoccupations. Anne Scott-James is the author of a string of successful books including the gardening classics Down to Earth, Sissinghurst and Gardening Letters to My Daughter.
