This is the true first edition of this novel and precedes all other editions. Sent out prior to January 2011 by this publisher with plans for a hardcover release in February 2011, this publisher ceased operations on January 7th 2011, and although they announced that all book releases would continue, it didn't happen with this one. Thomas Allen Publishers stepped in and released the first Canadian edition in August of 2011,several months behind schedule, meanwhile the U.K. first edition came out before it, in June 2011. The story centers around Hieronymus "Heiro" Falk and Sidney "Sid" Griffiths jazz bandmates in 1939 Berlin and 1940s Paris attempting to flee Nazi Germanys evil ideology. Falk is on the wrong side of this and is eventually lost to history. Some of his music survives, and 50 years later fans of Falk discover his forgotten story. Told from the point of view of both characters. Winner of the 2011 Scotiabank Giller prize, finalist for the 2011 Man Booker Prize, the 2012 Orange Prize For Fiction, the 2011 Governor General's Awards, and the 2011 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. Key Porter Books ceased operations prior to the intended book release in February 2011. The book was eventually published by Thomas Allen in 2011. This copy is signed by Esi Edugyan on the title page. The author has also written the last sentence of the book with her signature, "Play it again." The ARC is very scarce.
