This collection of 27 essays is the result of a dialog concerning the future of Christian social thought, the immediate occasion being the centenary of Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum. The essayists are Christian theologians, philosophers, and political theorists. Their subjects range from the future of Catholic social thought to the history of Protestant political reflection, from the responsibilities of freedom to the freedom of natural law. The recurring but unstated theme is a frantic search for an authoritative basis for Christian social thought and thus for Christian social action.
