About the Author:
Born in Georgia, graduate of Auburn University, graphic designer and watercolor painter; married with four children and ten grandchildren. Two of my children are professional illustrators, one is a silversmith amd a daughter-in-law is a graphic designer as well. I live in suburban St. Louis with my wife and a dog and elderly cat. The message tree in The Thong Tree existed in a specific rural Missouri location until loggers recently clear-cut it! (Such trees still stand in many forested areas of the East, South and Midwest.)
Review:
"Middle readers in grades 3-7 will relish this color-illstrated story of a Missouri boy who discovers an ancient tree used as an Indian marker. The tree serves as a focal point for a journey into the past and a better understanding of both Indian ways and the meaning of courage. Skillful time travel scenes supplement the tale of a boy's ordeal in two worlds." -- The Bookwatch, 12/90
