The author feels that African-Americans and other groups have different needs in psychotherapy. The author decided to cater this book to the specific needs of African-Americans. African-Americans have a different background and have had many different experiences. This calls for a different approach to their well-being in psychotherapy.
About the Author:
Jay Thomas Willis was born in East Texas. Graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a B.S. in sociology. He also graduated from Texas Southern University with an M.Ed. in counseling. In addition he received an MSW in social work from the University of Houston. He has held numerous social work jobs over the past twenty-five years. He has now turned to freelance writting. He has written "Freeing the African-American's Mind" and "Implications for Effective Psychotherapy With African american Families and Individuals." He writes regular Op-Ed commentaries for the "Chicago Defender Newspaper." He lives in Richton Park, Illinois withhis wife and two sons.
