Savannah to Sweetwater is the story of survival and redemption when three individuals worlds collide. All Rachel Gregory ever dreamed of was to be mistress of her father s plantation and to live her life in the ease and luxury of a Southern aristocrat. When she arrives home in the spring of1859 from an extended stay in Europe, her dreams collide with reality. She finds her home in shambles, her deceased father s mill in the hands of another and herself virtually penniless. Clinging with tenacious myopia to her past, she refuses to acknowledge that life as she knew it is over. When she places the blame for her predicament on wealthy, handsome, Savannah shipping magnate, Andrew Meredith, she spurns the love of the one who wants to rescue her and blindly turns to one who plots her downfall. When Meredith s conscience forces him to confront the evils of his time, he must choose between what is expedient and what is right. Complicating his decision is his mysterious attachment to the exquisite woman of color, Daphne DeLucie. A product of the darkest side of slavery, her strange hold on Andrew and his dedication to her welfare stir a maelstrom of controversy that demands a solution. His decision forces him to encounter personal danger, risk financial ruin, and alienate the woman he loves. Savannah to Sweetwater is a tale of intrigue, conflict and romance. Set in the old South on the eve of the 1860 elections, it is the story of Rachel and Andrew and the love they both tried to deny. Their story is played out against a backdrop of an era ending and the conflicting values that ushered in its tragic destruction. The way the two come to term with each other and the end of an age create a poignant commentary of the times. Their decisions affect not only their own lives but have resounding consequences on the vital characters that are woven like seamless tapestry into the lives of Rachel and Andrew.

About the Author:
When Doris English left college to marry the man of her dreams, little did she realize that the happiness and fulfillment she found in this union would inspire her to share that joy with others in her writing. A romantic at heart with an avid interest in history, Doris has always loved a good love story. When intrigue and history combine with well-defined characters and a complex plot, she finds a story irresistible. The introduction of the inspirational genre to the fiction market presented a perfect opportunity to tell the wholesome stories of love, intrigue and adventure bubbling inside her. Convinced that somewhere within the heart of every woman is a deep longing for that special someone in whom she can safely invest her dreams, Doris creates stories incorporating love and romance as God intended it to be. After forty years of marriage and more in love than ever, Doris recognizes that love is not a goal, but rather a journey with obstacles and temptations all along the way. From her heart she creates characters that live and breathe who face and overcome barriers that would destroy their happiness. Her multi faceted characters experience the joy of achievement, the pain of disappointment and the thrill of connecting against a backdrop of a fast moving tales consisting of intrigue and adventure, many times in historical settings. Her favorite time period is the mid 1800 s set in our great nation. Realizing that serenity nurtures creativity, Doris and her husband Bob, along with their three daughters moved to a small farm just outside metro Atlanta. In this serene setting her delight is relaxing on the front porch of her modified French country home and watching the deer graze in the pasture in front of her house while visions of heroes and heroines dance through her head. Adding to these moments of inspiration is the extensive travel Doris and Bob have enjoyed where new settings and adventures set her mind ablaze. The have traveled from the Middle East to Europe, the British Isles, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and visited the Caribbean many times but their favorite place is their own romantic cabin nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on a bluff overlooking the Toccoa River where Doris spends her most productive hours writing. Although her marriage and the subsequent arrival of three daughters delayed her education, putting her dreams of writing on hold, she continued her education when he children entered school. Committed to the role of wife and mother as her first priority, she arranged her schedule to meet the needs of her family. Finally one year before her youngest daughter graduated from college, Doris graduated from West Georgia University with a 4.0 average and a B.A. in history and a minor in journalism. When she looks at the three mature, productive young women who are her daughters and experiences the encouragement of a loving husband to pursue her dream, she encounters no regrets. As a matter of fact she has learned that a dream delayed and nurtured is all the sweeter when realized.
