This is the most comprehensive and in-depth dictionary of industrial terms available, a must-have for any engineer, scientist, technician, or operator working in industry.
This timely and innovative new reference is a thorough compilation of over 11,000 terms used in process control, reliability, machinery, corrosion, asset management, lubrication, quality control, process and occupational safety, and many more areas within industry. The alphabetically arranged entries range from a few descriptive words to a page or more, covering nearly every industrial term used on the shop floor, in the plant, or in the office. The over 11,000 entries, written in easy-to-understand, practical language, are supplemented by hundreds of figures and tables that clearly demonstrate the principles and concepts behind the definitions.
One of the aims of this comprehensive volume is to help industrial professionals communicate with a clearer understanding of the definitions and descriptions of the processes, equipment, and concepts that they use every single day in their jobs. When unclear communication occurs in industry, the problems that result can be costly. Here's where the Dictionary of Industrial Terms can help to eliminate frustration, cost, downtime, and equipment failure. Now, you, your staff, vendors, contract employees, and consultants can quickly refer to more than 11,000 terms and definitions in this handy new volume. Providing a common ground for more effective communication, this dictionary is an essential reference for anyone working in an industrial setting, and it is a useful reference for students as well.
From the Foreword:
"As I reviewed the contents of the dictionary, I was impressed by its practicality and applicability. As technology evolves, new terms and words become part of the industrial vernacular. There are other terms that are commonly used but may not be part of one's particular area of expertise. Having an understanding of the language of industry is invaluable when communicating with decision makers, building a new career, or moving from one type of manufacturing environment to another."
