Review:
"A humorous story about a lovable, troublemaking puppy... Paul's delightfully expressive pencil-and-watercolor illustrations keep the pace moving forward, with Flash often romping about all over the spread. " - Kirkus
"Emerging readers can easily read the text on their own, and children will love chanting the refrain when the book is shared in a group storytime or one-on-one. Flash will appeal not just to canine lovers but also to all children who love an underdog." - School Library Journal
"I giggled at the smirk Ruth Paul put on the cat's face every time Flash got in trouble. Her old-time illustrations remind me of the classic Tip and Mitten books by David McKee from my early childhood...her text, with its rhythm, rhyme, and repeating refrain of "Bad dog, Flash," make this a perfect read-aloud book for toddlers, and a delightful early reader for older children." - Good Reads with Ronna
"With simple rhyme and rhythm, BAD DOG FLASH works beautifully as both a beginning reader and a storytime book. And kudos to the designer who came up with the fun endpapers and dust jacket.

"Bad Dog Flash is a beautiful picture book that your little ones will want you to read again and again...The illustrations are sweet and the words are lyrical. It's a pleasure to read out loud and lots of fun for kids who love animals or might just be able to relate to Flash." - Mama Likes This
"This is such a sweet story about a dog named Flash...If you own a dog and maybe your dog is mischievous, then this story will bring a smile to your face. " - Dad of Divas' Review
"As a picture book, this makes for a fast read, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. For early readers, the sparse text allows for independent reading within the context of a fun story and attractive illustrations. The pencil and watercolor illustrations render Flash in all his adorableness, with the appearance of texture, in beautiful soft colors." - 5 Minutes for Books
"What a cute book! My kids and I read this several times before bed and they loved it. " - Batch of Books
"The simple text is perfect for a beginning reader to follow, and repeating the words makes this work as a read-aloud. Delightful pencil-and-
watercolor illustrations, copious white space, and an energetic canine make this an excellent pick for dog-lovers.

"A light and fun story. Great for toddler and preschool storytimes, when the kids will enjoy chorusing "Bad dog, Flash" and finding the puppy's naughty behavior on each page." - Jean Little Library
From School Library Journal:
PreS-Gr 1—Every time Flash the puppy tries to spice up his life (chasing the cat, chewing shoes, tearing the laundry from the line), he is sternly admonished by his mostly off-page humans. After this almost irrepressible pup sadly settles down, his enthusiasm is rekindled when he is cuddled by the little girl who owns him. The text is mostly composed of short rhythmic word pairs ("Still cat,/dull cat./Fast cat,/fun cat./Run, cat!") followed by the inevitable refrain, "Bad dog, Flash." The pencil and watercolor illustrations have plenty of white space to frame the action and highlight the scruffiness of the dog. Emerging readers can easily read the text on their own, and children will love chanting the refrain when the book is shared in a group storytime or one-on-one. Flash will appeal not just to canine lovers but also to all children who love an underdog.—Marge Loch-Wouters, La Crosse Public Library, WI
