After finding a red crystal gem the size of his fist, Lucien unknowingly triggers the return of the rachanus, primordial beings who only view humans simply as a delicacy. While the crystal saves him from being devoured, Lucien wakes up angry, alone and discovers that the gem has permanently changed him.
