About the Author:
Shena Mackay was born in Edinburgh. Her first two novellas appeared in 1964. Since then she has written eight novels and three volumes of short stories. THE ORCHARD ON FIRE was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1996. Her work has been widely anthologised and broadcast and was the subject of a BBC Bookmark film in 1993. A new collection of stories, THE WORLD'S SMALLEST UNICORN, was published in 1999.
