Grizzled homicide detective Bernie Burnout” Farrell heads the hunt for a serial killer who is murdering call girls around Times Square. About the Author:
Arthur Nersesian was born and raised in New York City. He earned his masters degree in English at City College and has taught writing in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the South Bronx, and is currently teaching in Jackson Heights, Queens. Nersesian has published ten novels, including Suicide Casanova, Mesopotamia, and his best-selling cult classic, The Fuck-Up. He is currently finishing his multivolume epic, The Five Books of Moses.

The latest series of working-girl deaths appears to be ritualistic murders, suggesting a serial killer. Bernie Farrell, a veteran homicide detective with a bad attitude, a bad leg, and a worse reputation, catches the case. The victims have been tall and blonde, so Farrell thinks a decoy to lure the killer into a trap is one possible tactic. Since tall, good-looking blondes are in short supply in the NYPD homicide universe, new street-cop Gladyss Chronou, ambitious and a fresh academy grad, agrees to take a homicide assignment. There’s a little “babe and the grizzly bear” tension between the two, but both officers are focused on the killer. The search takes them from the seediest Times Square hotels to the fashion world to the upscale social milieu of Central Park West. The conclusion is harrowing, but the novel relies a bit too much on very familiar themes: mismatched partners, psycho killer, gritty New York. --Wes Lukowsky
