Typography. Function, shape and design provides a basic knowledge essential for readers of all levels, from students to professionals. His story begins in 1455 in the West, with the publication of the Gutenberg Bible, called "forty-two lines," although the history of writing and alphabets dates back to thousands of years ago. The book, carefully structured and richly illustrated, introduces the reader to all the key aspects of the subject, from the history of language and writing, until the invention of movable type and the evolution of today's digital systems. It provides an overview of the amazing variety of existing letter and is a practical guide to using the type as a significant element of design in all media. Phil Baines graduated from the St Martin's School of Art in 1985 and at the Royal College of Art in 1987. Since then, works as a freelance designer, especially for its typographic creations, like his two types for the Fuse project and Neville Brody Recent editorials designs for clients like Goethe Institut, Matt's Gallery and Phaidon Press, among others. He is a university professor of the course of Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and Catherine Dixon shares the position of curator of the Central Lettering Record. Andrew Haslam graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1987. Since then, has its own studio, which is dedicated to the creation of textbooks in science, geography and history to children. In 1994 he won the award given by the American Institute of Physics at the best science writing, and in 1997 the gold medal awarded by the Geographical Society for the best contribution to geography. He has taught at several colleges in the UK and currently directs the course of Communication Design of the Central Saint Martins College of Art
