Cross Purpose, often published as The Misunderstanding, follows a man who has been living overseas for many years as he returns home to find his sister and widowed mother are making a living by taking in lodgers and murdering them. Since neither recognize him, he becomes a lodger himself without revealing his identity. Written by Albert Camus, an Algerian-born French philosopher, author, dramatist, and journalist. He was the recipient of the 1957 Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 44, the second-youngest recipient in history.
