Book
Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. Reprint. 250 pp, 8vo (8 3/4" H). "Stuart was an ordinary London doctor, nothing more. But, having practised medicine in the Far East, he did have a unique knowledge of rare poisons; which was perhaps the reason why he was involved (with strange and mysterious goings on, including warnings of danger coming from the East from a beautiful woman calling herself Mademoiselle Dorian). Now the stranger in his study said: 'Permit me to present myself - Gaston Max, at your service!' The surprises of the night were evidently not over yet. For Stuart was due to perform a post mortem examination on the body of Gaston Max, the French detective, in a few hours time. 'The Golden Scorpion' is a typically bizarre and thrilling mystery from the pen of Sax Rohmer, the creator of Dr. Fu-Manchu." Faint fold at bottom of first few pages, light wrinkle at bottom of spine. Dust jacket has minor edge wear, large corner crease on front flap, very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine anf flap-folds, crease along bottom edge of rear pane and flap, browning on inside - mainly at top edge.

Seller: S. Howlett-West Books (Member ABAA), Modesto, CA, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. 11th Edition. This book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners have some light bumping and rubbing. The text pages are clean and bright. Both endpapers have toning. There is one tear to page 2-3 at the bottom edge. "The first three Fu Manchu books were published in the four years between 19131917; but it was not until 1931 (some 14 years after the third book in the series) that Rohmer returned to the series with Daughter of Fu Manchu. The reason for the long interval was that Rohmer wanted to be well and truly done with the series after The Si-Fan Mysteries, much as Arthur Conan Doyle did with Sherlock Holmes. The first three books had been successfully filmed by Stoll in the twenties as a pair of serials. In 1928, Rohmer bowed to pressure and agreed to write a fourth novel as a serial for Collier's. Paramount had the first Warner Oland picture gearing up for production and the daily newspaper strip based on the series was in the offing. There was public demand for the character's return."
