The author brings the five senses of the reader the actuality of one skirmish that may have occurred anywhere in the war, and did over and over. Unclipped dust jacket shows wear and fading and has the remnants of a sticker on the cover along with a date written on the spine. The book is solid and pages clean. There is a bookplate inside the cover and the previous owner has written her name, in ink, throughout the book.

Originally published by Knopf in 1943 (and reprinted by Shocken in 1989), this is a wartime reprint, a "War Book Panel Imperative." Somewhat scarce in this Fine condition.
