Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First edition. Small octavo. 150pp. Many photos of divers in action. One corner worn, else very good in tattered dustwrapper lacking much of the rear panel. This copy is Inscribed on the dedication page by Dr. Lee to his star pupil Greg Louganis: "Greg, it is dedicated to such divers as you who must carry the burden of 'American Diving Supremacy' ---but whether you win or lose you will always be my diver 'Numero Uno' and my Number Two Son. Your Coach and #2 Big Daddy. Sammy." Dr. Lee was himself an Olympic diver, winning back-to-back gold medals in 1948 and 1952. Later he became a celebrated diving coach and worked with Greg Louganis from the time Louganis was in his early teens. When this book was published, the teenage Greg had already won an Olympic silver medal but was destined for greater glory in the 80s. Additionally, Louganis is the subject of several of the photos in this book as well. In later years, Greg Louganis became an outspoken and articulate advocate for gay rights and remains so to this day. A wonderful association between two gold medal winning Olympic divers.
