Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st printing of the first Canadian hardcover edition SIGNED by the late Gil Courtemanche on the half title page - an indication that this copy was autographed at publication. Black paper boards, silver titles and white endpapers. A tight copy with sharp corners. The heel of the book's spine has softened. A bookstore security label is affixed to the rear paste down, hidden by the jacket flap. A fleck of ink is present on the page facing the autograph on the half-title page. The jacket is bright, crisp and price intact. The Quebecois print and broadcast journalist may be best known for this novel, which earned high praise and established him as a novelist. It was translated into 10 languages and published in over a dozen countries. The novel won the Prix des libraires du Québec in 2001 and was nominated for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize in 2003. Inspired by the 1994 Rwandan genocide and General Roméo Dallaire, the story was made into a movie by Robert Favreau as Un dimanche à Kigali (A Sunday in Kigali). The novel and the film describe the full horrors of the Rwandan tragedy with compassion, and demonstrate passionate love contrasted with the beauty of a ravaged country and disbelief in face of such incredible violence. Canadian order will be charged GST. Signed by Author(s).
